Why we set this up

We created Visit Whaley Bridge to bring together clear and useful information about the town, so it is easier to see what is here and how to make the most of it.

There are already a lot of things to do in Whaley Bridge, but it often sits across different places, groups and platforms, which can make it harder to find if you are new to the area or visiting for the first time.

A study by djs research showed that people wanted “Stronger visual identity and brand”, “more information”, and an “increased profile online”, which is why Visit Whaley Bridge was set up as one central place for this information.

Things to enjoy in Whaley Bridge

We focus on the things that help people spend time here, whether that is for a few hours, a longer stay or our local community.
There’s lots of things to do in Whaley Bridge and Derbyshire, that includes:

Events and local activities

Walks in the countryside

Cafés, pubs and independent shops

Community groups and organisations

Toddbrook Reservoir

We’re also proud of our story. The incredible events around the dam in 2019, the strength of our community and the major restoration now underway all form an important part of who we are. With the reservoir set to reopen in 2026, it feels like an exciting moment for Whaley Bridge.

This is only the beginning. We’re still learning, shaping and growing this space, and everything you see here is created with care by a small team of local volunteers. If you have ideas or suggestions for what you’d love to see featured, we’d love to hear from you.

Where is Whaley Bridge?

We’re a small town in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England, located on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Whaley Bridge sits between the larger towns of Buxton and Stockport, making it a convenient location for both rural countryside access and commuter links to Greater Manchester. Known for its scenic canals, including the historic Peak Forest Canal, and proximity to outdoor attractions, Whaley Bridge is popular for walking, cycling, and nature tourism.
